Here’s the List of the Top 5 Harshest Planets Found So Far

Our Galaxy is filled with an enormous number of planets and many of them are unlike Earth and have very hostile conditions on their surfaces. Take the case of Venus and Mercury itself. The condition in Venus is so hellish that the temperature there can melt lead.

Mercury which is the closest planet to the sun doesn’t have a proper atmosphere to protect itself from the sun’s radiation and heat, making things difficult there.

Neptune and Jupiter are two other planets in our solar system which have uninhabitable conditions as well. In the case of Neptune, it’s not heat which makes the planet uninhabitable, but the wind. The planet has wind blowing at a speed of 700 mph to 1200 mph, which is capable of ripping anything apart on its surface at the high speed.

Jupiter even if it appears to be a rocky planet from space, the planet is just a ball of gas, and the wind, pressure, and high gravity on the planet will destroy anything which enters its surface.

Kepler-7ob is also called the half-eaten planet. Half of the planet has been consumed by its parent star when the planet entered the outer layer of its dying star.

Even if the core of the planet has been saved, the conditions on the planet have changed a lot. The atmosphere it once had has been completely destroyed and all the oceans on its surface have been vaporized entirely.

The planet still orbits around its star but will soon one day meet its fate.

Gliese 1214b is a planet that is full of oceans but just with one difference, the oceans are boiling hot. With such a climate, the atmosphere on the planet is also very thick and steamy which makes it difficult for anything to survive on its surface.

The condition on the planet is also very strange that the planet even has ice which is heated to very high degrees of temperature without even melting.

Gliese 1132b

Gliese 1132b is a planet that is the size of our Earth but more like the planet Venus. Yes, you guessed it right! The temperature on the surface of the planet is heated to upto 500 degrees Fahrenheit, making the condition there hellish than in Venus.

It can also be understood that any amount of water on the surface of the planet would have long before vaporized without even a trace of it on the planet’s surface.

The planet OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb or Hoth has conditions that are very opposite to that of the Gliese 1132b. At first, the planet was identified as a planet habitable like our earth but later was understood to be a planet that is freezing cold.

The surface of the planet is as cold as  -300 degrees Fahrenheit and resembles more Pluto than our Earth. We’ll also be able to find mountains of methane, nitrogen, and water in frozen states on the surface of the planet.

PSO J318.5–22 is also referred to as the rogue planet which has no parent star or any companion planets. The planet’s fate is to remain in eternal darkness and the heat from its violent birth still makes the surface of the planet very hot and unsuitable for any life forms.

Scientists still consider that there might be many planets like PSO J318.5–22 wandering aimlessly in space which are still yet to be discovered.
